Edo Partners

Corporate Finance Consulting

Edo Partners supports Japanese subsidiaries of foreign corporations and domestic mid-sized and growth-stage companies in building financial structures and establishing reporting frameworks for global headquarters and executive teams. As a U.S. Certified Public Accountant (USCPA), we engage from the position of reading, organizing, and interpreting financial statements, budgets, and forecasts.

Who This Is For

  • Japanese subsidiaries of foreign corporations building out their finance and accounting structure
  • Domestic mid-sized and growth-stage companies that need budgeting processes or global-standard reporting
  • Companies without a CFO or finance lead, or that want an outside perspective on their finance function

Not a fit if: you want bookkeeping or tax filing itself handled (we refer you to our partner tax accountant or accounting firm).

What We Provide

  • Organizing and building budget planning processes
  • Design and support for QBR (quarterly business review) implementation
  • Building financial reporting formats for global headquarters and executive teams
  • Organizing management accounting reports
  • Consultation on cash flow management and fundraising strategy
  • Reading and organizing financial conditions in financial statements and contracts (based on USCPA expertise; not tax accountant work)
  • Support for building governance structures and financial policies

Our role as a USCPA is to read financial statements and numbers, organize them, and put them into a form usable for management decisions and headquarters reporting — not to perform the work of a licensed Japanese tax accountant.

What We Do Not Provide

  • Bookkeeping, or preparing and filing tax returns
  • Audits (financial or internal audits) themselves
  • Tax planning or legal opinions (we refer you to our partner tax accountants and lawyers)
  • Payroll processing or labor administration services

Process

  1. Hearing on current financial and accounting structure
  2. Identifying issues (budget process, reporting format, governance, etc.)
  3. Proposing an improvement plan
  4. Implementation support (building the budget cycle, formatting QBR materials, etc.)
  5. Building a coordination structure with tax accountants or accounting firms as needed
FAQ

FAQ

Can you replace our tax accountant?

No. Tax filing and tax planning are handled by our partner tax accountant. Edo Partners organizes financial statements, budgets, and forecasts, and puts them into a form usable for management decisions and headquarters reporting.

Can you help right after entering the Japanese market?

Yes. This often continues from Japan Market Entry Advisory, but standalone finance engagements are also available.

Do you work with domestic companies too?

Yes. Not limited to foreign-affiliated companies — we also support domestic mid-sized and growth-stage companies that need budgeting or global-standard reporting.

What does your position as a USCPA mean?

Based on the U.S. Certified Public Accountant qualification, we have the expertise to read and organize financial statements and the financial terms of contracts. This differs from a Japanese tax accountant qualification and does not include tax filing representation.
